Alan Williams anchors Local 8 News at 5 Monday through Friday and also files reports for his weekly series "Keeping the Faith" and "Tennessee Traveler."
Alan says he's truly blessed to have spent more than 30 years in the broadcast business and living in his hometown of Knoxville.
His career in news began in 1979 at WBIR as a weekend sports anchor. After a stint in Alabama, Alan came back home as sports director at WATE, then sports director of WIVK radio. During that period, he also hosted a TNN country dance show called "Dance Line." Alan's career took another turn when he came on board at WKXT (now WVLT) in 1988 to host a new show called "Noonday," and that led to his role as an evening news anchor.
Alan is a member of the Screen Actors' Guild and a member of the Country Music Association. He's also the spokesperson for the Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Knoxville, advisory member of the Knoxville Nativity Pageant, a Knoxville Area United Way board member as well as board member for Positively Living and Love All Tennis.
Growing up, Alan was always interested in sports. He earned a football scholarship to the University of Florida and was drafted as a punter for the New York Jets.
Alan is married to the former Rebecca Jackson, a former Vol Football Hostess. Between the two of them, they have five children. In his spare time Alan enjoys sports, running, reading and sharing time with the family, three dogs and two horses.
Alan is honored to be welcomed into your home every night and share the stories that touch our lives.
