Kentucky middle school teacher accused of being sexually involved with student

LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (WKYT) -- A Kentucky middle school teacher is facing multiple charges after investigators say he had an inappropriate relationship with a student.

News sources reported that John Cariel, a 66-year-old teacher at Grayson County Middle School, was charged with distribution of obscene matter to a minor, first-degree sexual abuse, second-degree sodomy and engaging in the prohibited use of an electronic communications system to procure a minor or peace officer for sexual offenses.

Leitchfield police say the charges stem from incidents in 2017.

He is being held in the Grayson County Detention Center.
