KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Interstate 40 East has been reduced from five lanes to two while Tennessee Department of Transportation does bridge work. The closure starts at MM 383, the Papermill Road exit, and extends 2 miles.
According to TDOT Community Relations Officer Mark Nagi's Twitter @MarkNagiTDOT, I-40 East is expected to reopen by 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
The lane closures have brought heavy traffic both on I-40 and on Kingston Pike, and drivers have seen delays over the weekend.
Bridge deck repairs are being conducted over Hollywood Drive, resulting in the lane closures. Motorists are advised to use caution in this area, as workers will be present.
