KPD seeks information after motorcyclist killed in head-on crash

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knoxville Police are seeking information after a crash left one motorcyclist dead Saturday morning. On Monday, authorities identified the victim as Michael Lawson from Seymour.

The incident happened at 11:23 a.m. Saturday in the 6300 block of Chapman Highway, near Wheels Auto Sales.

KPD said three vehicles were involved. Officers said Lawson was traveling northbound on Chapman Highway in the left lane while riding a 2004 Honda CBR. Investigators said the motorcycle went into the southbound lane and hit another vehicle head-on. Police said Lawson died in the crash.

Authorities said the two other vehicles involved were a 2014 Nissan Altima and a 2005 Honda.

KPD said other drivers might have seen the crash and are asking for help as they continue the investigation. Anyone who saw any part of the crash has been asked to call the KPD traffic services unit at 865-215-8638.
