KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A South Knoxville eatery dating back to 1946 closed its doors at the end of 2017, but it now has new owners and they plan to reopen Kay's Ice Cream by the end of the summer.
According to George Saah, one of the new owners and current owner of Scott's Place at 4700 Asheville Highway, there's no exact date for the South Knoxville staple's reopening but he's shooting for the first week of August.
Because the original owners wanted some of the original features to stay, when Kay's reopens at 6200 Chapman Highway it will have the same style and serve the original ice cream and food. But there will be a few changes; Saah said there will be new equipment in the eatery, and instead of using frozen beef patties they plan to use fresh ground beef.
Saah said they're now hiring for the revived ice cream shop. Anyone who wants to put in an application can call 865-712-2009.
