KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Looks like new Tennessee Head Coach Jeremy Pruitt isn't wasting any time. According to our partners at Volquest.com, Pruitt selected the first members of his staff.
With news on Friend, Helton, Fair and Gillespie as part of Tennessee’s new staff, one VFL told @Volquest_Rivals: “It has taken Pruitt about 4 hours to build a recruiting juggernaut. Wow.”— Jesse Simonton (@JesseReSimonton) December 7, 2017
Tyson Helton, quarterbacks coach at the University of Southern California, is expected to join the staff Thursday. Before coming to USC, he spent the previous two years as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Western Kentucky.
Former Vol Terry Fair is also joining Pruitt's staff, according to Volquest. The former first-round NFL Draft choice is currently in his third year at Colorado State serving as cornerbacks coach.
Current running backs coach Tennessee, Robert Gillespie was given the opportunity to remain on staff, Volquest reporting he will choose to stay with the Vols. Gillespie has been with Tennessee since 2013. Recruiting coordinator was added to his job title in 2015.
Georgia's linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer is set to take the defensive coordinator job with the Vols. The news was first reported by Bruce Feldman and Volquest confirmed that report.
This story will continue to be updated, as assistant spots are filled.
