KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- For three days next week, a construction company will be taking down a tower crane at the intersection of Church Avenue and State Street, causing a complete closure of a short section of Church Avenue.
Starting at 5 a.m. on April 24, Church Avenue near the work site will be closed. The crane removal is scheduled to be finished by 6 p.m. on April 26.
City officials said the intersection at State Street and Church Avenue will remain open for most of the three days. Drivers will be able to go north on State Street through the intersection or turn right onto Church Avenue.
Pedestrians will have access to Church Avenue throughout the expected closure.
For a half day on Aprill 26, the State Street-Church Avenue intersection will be closed during the dismantling of the tower crane. Drivers heading north on State or west on Church will be detoured by crews to avoid the closed intersection.
The large tower crane comes from crews that have been building a new hotel. A 144-room Courtyard by Marriott and 88-room Residence Inn are going up on what had been a vacant plot for almost two decades.
The 166,000-square-foot hotels are expected to open later this year.
