Tom Petty dies at 66

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (CBS) -- A spokeswoman for Tom Petty confirms the rock legend has died at 66.

First responders were reportedly able to get a pulse before Petty was rushed to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and was put on life support Sunday.

TMZ reported Monday that after Petty arrived at the hospital, he was found to have no brain activity, and a decision was made to pull life support.

CBS News originally reported the news network had independently verified rocker Tom Petty's passing Monday; however, LAPD later clarified they had "no information" about the star's death.

Entertainment news source TMZ reported Petty was rushed to the hospital Sunday night after he was found unconscious, not breathing and in full cardiac arrest in his Malibu home.
