Virginia teen killed after "hood-surfing"

Washington County, VA A 15 year-old boy was run over and killed after "hood surfing" on a rural Washington County, Virginia road Wednesday afternoon, according to Virginia State Police.

WJHL in Johnson City reports the driver of the car was a 16 year-old female.

VSP tol WJHL said it happened around 3 p.m. on Childress Hollow Road near Spring Valley Road.

"A 16-year-old Washington County female was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier on Childress Hollow Road when her 15-year-old male passenger got out of the vehicle and crawled onto the hood with the intention of "hood surfing," said VSP spokesperson Corinne Geller. "The Cavalier was traveling along Childress Hollow Road below the posted speed limit of 35 mph when the 15-year-old Washington County male slid off the hood. The teenage driver was unable to brake in time and struck the male. He died at the scene."

The 16-year-old was cited for reckless driving.
