KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A tractor-trailer caught fire on Interstate 40 heading East Thursday morning, forcing traffic onto 640 for hours while firefighters battled the flames.
The fire started around 1:30 a.m. Thursday. The truck made it over to the right shoulder. of I-40 east near the on-ramp to I-640. Knoxville dispatch tells us the driver was able to jump from the truck before the flames spread.
The truck was hauling other vehicles. At least two were parked directly above the cab of the truck and were destroyed by the flames. Authorities could not confirm how many vehicles were damaged.
Traffic started flowing again around 4 a.m. Thursday. A wrecker was spotted at the scene to tow the truck away.
