The TSSAA basketball state championships \continue in Murfreesboro:

On semifinal Friday at the MTSU Murphy Center, it was Oak Ridge facing one of the top teams in the nation in Memphis East in a
Class-AAA match-up. The Cats would hold their own shooting 46 percent from the field while limiting their turnovers to just six. The Wildcats even led by a point heading into the 4th quarter, but in the end it would be the Mustangs coming out on top by a final score of 63-60. Coach Aaron Green's team finishes the season at a very impressive 31-3.
In one of the Class-AA semifinals, it was top ranked Catholic taking on Whites Creek out of Nashville. After a slow start, the Irish woulds come on in the second half, but the Cobras would keep coming and tied the game late at 53. It looked like we might be heading to overtime, but Catholic's Luke Smith fires up a running shot from just inside half-court and it goes in at the buzzer! 56-53 is your final. Smith would finish with a game-high 20-points. The fighting Irish will face Maplewood for the Class-AA title on Saturday, a game you'll see locally on MyVLT
at 4:30 ET.
In Class-A, two of our area teams were vying for a sport in Saturday's championship game. First up, it was Grace Christian taking on Clay County. The Rams would come up short, losing to the Bulldogs 76-70. Grace closes out the season at 28-9.
So it'll be Clay County facing Harriman in the Class-A championship. The Blue Devils trailed Columbia Academy 61-54 in the 4th quarter, but Harriman would go on a 10-0 run to take the lead led by Joe Pace who finished with 24 points. Harriman wins it 72-68 and will face Clay County at 7pm ET on MyVLT Saturday night.
There are several Knoxville area boys teams still competing for a state title including: Catholic, Oak Ridge, Grace and Harriman. The Bearden boys fell in the first round of Class 3-A competition.
On Thursday it was Grace Christian defeating Humboldt 62-59. In another Class-A quarterfinal, it was Harriman turning back three time defending state champion Mitchell 59-54, behind Isiah McClain's 18 points. The Blue Devils will face Columbia Academy in the State semi's Friday night at 7:00pm ET. Grace advances to play Clay County in the semifinals at 5:30pm ET on Friday.
Oak Ridge Ridge will take on Memphis East at 12:30PM ET Friday in one Class-AAA semifinal at the Murphy Center. That game will be followed by Knoxville Catholic and Whites Creek out of Nashville.
