UT Coaching Search: Fulmer interviews three candidates, according to sources

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- As the search for a new head football coach enters its third week, newly named athletics director Phillip Fulmer interviewed two sitting coordinators at SEC schools, according to our media partners at Volquest.com

Kevin Steele was interviewed on Sunday according to Austin Price of Volquest. Fulmer and Steele have a history together at Tennessee dating back to the late 1970's. Steele is currently the defensive coordinator at Auburn. The only head coaching stint for Steele was from 1999-2002 at Baylor where he tallied a 9-36 record over four years, winning only one conference game.

Fulmer also spent time with Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker on Sunday. Tucker's career as a defensive coach in the NFL spans from 2005-2014 with Cleveland, Jacksonville and Chicago. Tucker does not have any head coaching experience.

Chad Morris of SMU, who's name circulated during Currie's time as AD, was also interviewed according to Volquest.

Fulmer will be in New York Tuesday for the National Football Foundation Annual Awards Dinner where Peyton Manning will be honored.
