KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Throughout his coaching career, winning has become a part of Tennessee's newly named head football coach Jeremy Pruitt—but it hasn't completely defined him.
"[He's a] great recruiter," TideSports.com writer Aaron Suttles said. "Relates well to today's student athletes. He's an ole country boy from Rainsville, Alabama, and his success has not changed that. He's honest to a fault, that's probably why he recruits so well. He tells them the truth."
That honesty has impacted his players over the years, and it's why many of them took to social media to express their happiness for Pruitt as he takes the next step in his career.
"You can tell his players love him," CBS affiliate WIAT Sports Director Chris Preece said. "Some say they have to be Tennessee fans now begrudgingly because they want their former coach to succeed. It goes to show you how much the players think of him."
Media members who have covered Alabama sports warned not to let Pruitt's laid back attitude disguise his intense coaching strategy.
"Very philosophical guy, very technically sound. He knows his stuff," Preece said. "Very up-tempo. He wants you guys to do things the right way, and the right way the first time."
Pruitt takes that attitude to Rocky Top upon his new coaching position, immediately adding fuel to the Tennessee-Alabama fire.
"The rivalry has kind of been on the back burner, but this renewed the hatred Alabama fans have for Phillip Fulmer and Tennessee," Suttles said.
So, who is Jeremy Pruitt? A small town guy with big time accomplishments—and his success is potential enough for Vol fans to trust the process.
