Knox County Commissioners May Consider Special Election

Knoxville (WVLT) - Tennessee's state Election Coordinator says he lacks the power to allow a special election to fill the dozen seats vacated over violation of the states sunshine law.

Last week, a jury decided some Knox County Commissioners violated the open meetings act when filling twelve term-limited officials back in January.

The judge ordered the eleven commissioners remaining on the nineteen member panel to fill the vacancies.

Now, the Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting the County Commission may have to decide whether to hold a special election to fill the terms.

Commission Chairman Scott Moore said he will call a special meeting Monday to consider it.
