21st Annual Boo At The Zoo

Knoxville (WVLT) -- If you're looking for some fun, fall, family events this is one you won't want to miss.

In one week the Knoxville Zoo will host its annual "Boo at the Zoo".

For eight nights, the zoo turns into one of the largest Halloween events in town.

"It's a phenomenal family fun, Halloween type scary fun, evening fun for families," said Kevin Hils, Director of Education and Communications at the Knoxville Zoo.

"Boo at the Zoo" is a fundraising event for the animals with a monster mash, and a trick or treat trail.

"In the dark and wandering around with lots of scary ghouls and things to see,” Hils said, “but it's a safe family time."

And even though everyone’s furry and feathered friends may be sleeping, it's still a great time to celebrate the season.

"It really is a chance to celebrate the fall time and we have lots of costume characters that are wandering around the park,” Hils said.

Many participants bring boxes along.

And once they have grabbed their costumes, a big empty box will soon be filled with candy for all the trick or treaters.

"I'm sure there'll be a lot of “Transformers” and of course there is always the ever present “Barbie” you have to have her," Hils said.

And it's not just an event for kids.

"When we talk family events there is something that is just incredible, along with just coming to watch the parents dressed up with the kids too," he said.

After 21 years, "Boo at the Zoo" has become a fall tradition for families.

"Families are looking for fun fall things to do,” Hils said, “so families come back again."
