KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) Knoxville Police say an attempt by two women to get high in a West Knoxville parking lot instead caused an explosion seriously burning them both.

Knoxville Police spokesperson Darrell DeBusk says Lindsay Roundtree, 20, and Melissa Provost, 18, pulled into the Shoney's parking lot on Western Avenue last night around 9:15 pm.

DeBusk says the two women stayed in their car huffing airdust cleaners.

A short time after 10 pm, DeBusk says one of the girls attempted to light a cigarette causing an explosion.

Roundtree and Provost were taken to UT Medical Center and then airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment of their burns.

Hospital officials report both women are listed in "critical but stable" condition.
