Middle Tennessee Man Found Guilty of Place-Kicking, Killing Dog

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A man has been found guilty of aggravated animal cruelty for the kicking death of a two-pound miniature Yorkshire Terrier named Gizmo.

Chad Crawford denied kicking the dog in an incident that caused community outrage more than three years ago. Crawford told jurors he thought the dog could have been hit by a car.

He faces a maximum sentence of 11 months and 29 days in prison. The man accused of holding the dog like a football for a field goal will be tried later.

Owners Jelani Lewis and Jessica McKenzie have also sued the defendants.

The dog's owner testified that he saw Crawford kick the dog like a football and then his friends cheered.
