Association Says Plant Would Threaten Smoky Mountains

(WVLT) - The National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) says planned coal-fired power plan in Rutherford County, North Carolina will threaten the air quality in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

Duke Energy is proposing to build a new 800-megawatt plant at its Cliffside coal power plant.

The NPCA says the addition will "open a spigot of new pollutants that would negatively impact the park."

They say we must ask now to prevent the plant because it would be devastating to the health of the park.

The NPCA is calling on residents to submit comments to the North Carolina Department of Environment and Conservation by the end of Wednesday.
