Former Knox Co. Commissioner's Son Arrested on Federal Drug Charges

KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- Former Knox County commissioner Diane Jordan's only biological son has been arrested on federal drug charges.

Toi L. Melvin, 32, was arrested Tuesday, after a federal grand jury indicted him on three counts of distribution of five grams or more of crack cocaine.

According to U.S. Attorney Russ Dedrick, Melvin has four prior felony drug convictions and is on state parole.

Dedrick says, if convicted, Melvin faces ten years to life in prison, and a fine of up to $4 Million.

Melvin will be arraigned today at 2 p.m. in front of U.S. Magistrate C. Clifford Shirley.

Jordan is preparing a comment on the matter that could be ready later Wednesday afternoon.
