Missing NC Couple's Credit Card Used in East Tennessee

BREVARD, N.C. (AP) -- The investigation of a missing retired couple in North Carolina's mountains has become a murder case after authorities said a bank card belonging to the husband was used in East Tennessee.

Transylvania County Sheriff David Mahoney says the card belonging to 79-year-old John Bryant and his wife, 84-year-old Irene Bryant, was used Oct. 22 in Ducktown, Tenn., to withdraw $300.

The couple went missing three weeks ago. Authorities and volunteers searched the mountainous Pisgah National Forest until Sunday, two days after a body was found.

Mahoney says a preliminary report from the state medical examiner shows the person died from blunt force trauma but can't be positively identified until they have dental records.
