Sevier Co. Man Charged With Murdering Wife, Burning Home

Johnny Michael Dodgen, 51 is accused of murdering his wife and catching their home on fire on September 23, 2007.

Sevierville, Sevier County (WVLT) -- A Sevier County man has been arrested for murdering his wife.

Johnny Michael Dodgen, 51, has been charged with first degree murder and aggravated arson.

The incident happened on September 23 when the sheriffs department responded to a home on Spruce Way near Dollywood.

When they arrived they found Dodgen outside his burning home, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Inside the home, firefighters found his wife, Pricie Loretta Dodgen dead.

Mr. Dodgen originally told deputies that he was shot during a home invasion and that his wife was attacked by the intruders as he was fleeing the home.

On Tuesday, investigators interviewed Mr. Dodgen after a lengthy hospital stay.

That’s when Dodgen changed his story.

When he was told that he had given conflicting information, he admitted he was responsible for his wife’s death.

According to Dodgen, he killed his wife and then set fire to their home to conceal the crime.

He then unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide by shooting himself.

Mr. Dodgen is being held at the Sevier County Jail, awaiting his arraignment.
