Pair Of Sunday Fires Displaces Families

Knoxville (WVLT) -- Investigators are looking into a pair of fires that broke out in Knoxville on Sunday.

The first broke out in the Morningside Garden Apartment Complex on Linden Avenue around 11:30 AM.

Crews were able to put the fire out quickly, but the unit suffered some smoke and heat damage in the unit.

An elderly couple was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Then at about 8:30 PM, the firefighters were called to a home on the corner of West 5th Avenue and Boyd Street.

When they arrived they found flames shooting from the lower level two story structure.

Family members living in the home told investigators they were on the second floor when there was a loud noise.

They went to see what it was and discovered the first floor engulfed in flames.

Everyone got out unharmed and called 911 from a neighbors home.

Firefighters put the fire out and had to deal with several hot spots.

They said the home suffered both severe heat and water damage.
