Court Documents: Man Beat His Wife So Severely Her Pupils Burst

Domina Jemial Benton, 19

South Knoxville (WVLT) -- A Knoxville man is facing charges of attempted first degree murder after investigators say he severely beat his wife.

Court documents show 19 year-old Domina Jemial Benton and his wife got into an argument on Saturday at about 10:00 a.m. at their home on Daylily Drive in South Knoxville.

Investigators say Benton hit his wife, Pamela, with his hands, a broom, and a belt.

They say he then strangled her with an extension cord, causing her to loose consciousness.

They also say that caused her pupils to burst, causing her to lose vision.

It's not clear if she is permanently blinded.

Paramedics took Pamela Benton to Fort Sanders Regional Medical where a nurse described her as being near death.

Representatives at Fort Sanders say Benton is no longer a patient there but could not say if she was released or transferred to another hospital.

Domina Benton is charged with attempted first degree murder.

He is behind bars on $200,000 bond.
