TN Mother Sentenced to 12 Years In Fatal DUI Crash

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- A mother has been sentenced to 12 years in prison in the drunken driving crash that fatally injured her teenage son when he was thrown from the back of a pickup truck.

Johnson City Police said Marla Brumit's blood-alcohol level was .19, more than twice the legal limit, when she lost control of her truck and it struck a utility pole in June 2006.

Thirteen-year-old David Brumit was thrown from the truck bed and later died at a hospital.

Marla Brumit and her 10-year-old daughter, Emily, were injured.

Prosecutors say Brumit pleaded guilty on Friday to vehicular homicide, aggravated child neglect, and aggravated assault.
