Fire caused more than $2 million in damages at the jim Gray Gallery in Gatlinburg, early Friday morning.

GATLINBURG, Tenn (WVLT) An art gallery in downtown Gatlinburg suffered major damage in an early Friday morning fire.

The fire at Jim Gray Gallery on the Parkway broke out around 12:30 a.m.

Several fire trucks responded and had the fire under control in about 90 minutes.

Inspectors say they believe the fire began in the roof of an adjacent abandoned building and spread to the art gallery, but they say an exact cause is still unknown.

They estimate damage at about $2 million dollars.

Jim Gray told Volunteer TV News Friday morning that much of the pottery in the gallery can be salvaged, but the painings are ruined.

He said none of the ruined painting is original.

Gray says his other galleries remain open for customers to pick up art that they have ordered.
