NEW: TSSAA votes against pushing back fall athletic season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association has voted unanimously against pushing back the start of football season until after Labor Day.

That proposal and another to push back all fall sports were denied by the association's Legislative Council. The change had been proposed after concerns about a record heat wave for much of August during preseason football practice.

The proposals were first addressed at this year's regional meetings, when schools voted 194-104 against the football proposal and 205-93 against the fall sports proposal.
