W. Ky. high school band director indicted on sex charges

BENTON, Ky. (AP) -- A lawyer for a high school band director from western Kentucky says his client will plead not guilty to charges alleging he had sex with a student before she turned 16.

The band director, 37-year-old Michael Colvett of Benton, surrendered Tuesday afternoon at the Marshall County jail after being indicted.

Colvett is on administrative leave from Marshall County High School pending the outcome of the case. He was indicted on charges of third-degree rape and tampering with evidence, both felonies, and third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse.
