Indicted Kentucky dentist arrested in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- A former Bell County, Kentucky dentist is in jail here in Knoxville facing a four count felony indictment out of the Bluegrass State.

Kentucky Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced Craig L. Ralston, 55, of Tennessee, has been arrested for alleged Medicaid fraud and drug trafficking.

A Bell County Grand Jury returned the four count indictment on Wednesday. He is being held in the Knox County jail in lieu of a 100,000 bond.

According to the indictment, Ralston fraudulently billed and accepted payments from the Kentucky Medicaid Program for tooth extractions that he allegedly did not perform between 1998 and 2004.

The indictment also alleges that Ralston was trafficking in controlled substances by unlawfully providing patients prescriptions when there was no medical need for them

If convicted, Ralston faces up to 20 years in jail and a $40,000 fine.

“The Medicaid Program is devoted to meet the needs of Kentucky’s most disadvantaged citizens,” Stumbo said. “My office will vigorously prosecute all violations of the public trust.”
