Naifeh not reveling in annual ethics training requirement

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh isn't exactly thrilled that lawmakers are due for their annual ethics training this week.

The training requirement was part of sweeping ethics legislation passed in the wake of the Tennessee Waltz corruption sting that led to convictions of five former state lawmakers.

Naifeh, a Covington Democrat, reminded his colleagues that Wednesday's ethics training is mandatory. In Naifeh's words: "We all voted for that, for some reason."

The Senate is scheduled to hold its ethics training Thursday.
