Radio interviews help Thompson campaign in South Carolina

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Fred Thompson is relying on his radio roots for a rally in South Carolina's Republican presidential primary.

The former Tennessee senator once filled in for radio commentator Paul Harvey, and in a series of radio interviews this week Thompson has shown a radio host's knack for chatter.

He touches on issues that interest listeners and give him a chance to swipe at opponents. Those include his support for tough immigration laws and school vouchers.

He has also told listeners that no one knows what causes global warming and the U.S. shouldn't stake its economy on fixing the problem.
