TDOT pre-treating East Tennessee roads to prepare for snow

KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) The Tennessee Department of Transportation is getting ready today for possible snow Wednesday night and Thursday.

TDOT spokesperson Travis Brickey says road crews across East Tennessee have already begun pre-treating roads for snow. That involves spraying a brine solution on the roads that will prevent snow and ice from developing.

Brickey says in Knox County, crews are concentrating on Broadway, Emory, and Maynardville Highway, especially in the areas from Halls all the way to the Union County line.

Brickey says TDOT crews will be back out bright and early tomorrow pre-treating other main roadways and all the interstates to prepare for the snow. Then, once the first flakes start flying, the crews will begin to change over and drop salt, and if necessary, plow the roads.

In the Tri-Cities, some crews are already dropping snow because they received a bit of snow overnight.

The only problem with the brine solution, according to Brickey, is that if we get an extensive amount of rain before the snow begins to fall, the rain may wash the brine off the roads.
