UPDATED: Knoxville and UT Police looking for shooting suspect

Knoxville (WVLT) - Police are looking for a man they say shot a student in the Fort Sanders area near UT campus.

Police say it happened just after 9:30 Thursday night in the 12-hundred block of Laurel Avenue.

Knoxville Police say they received a call from a man at 1210 Laurel saying his roommate had been shot.

According to police, the victim, James Lesko, 23, formerly of Cookeville, told them he was approached by a man with a gun at 12th Street and Laurel Avenue. He says that man demanded money.

A struggle ensued, and Lesko was shot in the arm. He was taken to UT Medical Center for treatment.

In a text message sent to UT students by police, the suspect is described as a black male, 5' 11" tall, and was last seen wearing jeans, tennis shoes, and a white hoodie. Knoxville police say he was also wearing a white toboggan.

He was last seen running toward 11th Street.

Police say he is armed and dangerous.
