Roane County man charged after police standoff

Darrell Goddard, 54, of Harriman is charged with aggravated assault after a standoff with Roane County deputies on Tuesday, January 29th, 2008.

Harriman, Tenn (WVLT) -- A Roane County man is charged with aggravated assault after a he was allegedly involved in a domestic fight and a standoff with police overnight.

Darrell G. Goddard,54, of 147 Pine Ridge Road, placed a pistol in his wife's mouth during a domestic fight early Tuesday morning, according to Roane County investigators.

Goddard was able to escape to the neighbors home and call 911.

Deputies say Goddard barricaded himself in his home, then fled into the woods when police arrived.

After several hours, he surrendered to Chief Randy Heidle and Sheriff Jack Stockton at about 8:00 am.

Goddard is being held at the Roane County Jail on the aggravated assault charge.
