Possible tornado touchdown reported near Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Officials say a possible tornado touched down Tuesday night in Henry County, damaging homes and businesses. No injuries were reported.

Tennessee Emergency Management Agency spokesman Jeremy Heidt said eight homes and one business were damaged.

Homes southwest of Paris near Highway 69-South and a business off Highway 79 were damaged, Heidt said.

Meanwhile, strong winds in the Mid-South left thousands without power and damaged buildings and trees.

A spokesman for Memphis Light, Gas and Water said about 21,000 customers lost power Tuesday evening in Memphis and Shelby County.

Other parts of Tennessee were under severe thunderstorm warnings, with the possibility of hail and winds exceeding 60 mph.
