Country crooner Bobby Lord dead at 74

JENSEN BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Grand Ole Opry member Bobby Lord has died at the age of 74.

His family says the country music artist and television show host died Saturday at a Florida hospital after struggling with a number of illnesses.

Lord was the son of an auto mechanic who married his high school sweetheart.

He produced hits that included "Without Your Love," "Life Can Have Meaning," "You and Me Against the World" and "Wake Me Up Early in the Morning." And beginning in 1965, he had his own syndicated television show.

Lord's son Rob says his father was a "grandmaster storyteller" and self-deprecating man who didn't let his success give him a big head.
