Police charge teen accused of stealing state trooper's gun

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Memphis police have arrested an 18-year-old accused of jumping a Tennessee state trooper outside a Memphis hotel and running off with the officer's service pistol.

Investigators charged Bryant Pack, of Memphis, in connection to Tuesday's incident involving Trooper George Dittfurth.

Police say the trooper was attacked around 11 a.m. when he tried to question Pack, who was believed to be breaking into a car at a Holiday Inn parking lot.

Dittfurth lost the handgun in a scuffle with Pack. Police say the officer was not seriously hurt and no shots were fired.

Pack was taken into custody by police at a house in Frayser Tuesday evening. The trooper's gun was recovered at a different location near an East Memphis apartment complex the same night.

Pack was charged with two counts of burglary, robbery, theft of property over $1000, evading arrest and resisting official detention.
