CCA inmate refused to leave cell for 9 months, records show

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- An inmate at the privately run Metro Detention Facility didn't leave his cell for nine straight months until the health department got a complaint earlier this year.

According to prison records obtained by The Tennessean, 23-year-old inmate Frank Horton refused to leave his solitary cell for the allotted 60 minutes a day for a shower and recreation.

He was eventually forced out after an employee complained on Jan. 31. He was given a shower and a mental health evaluation.

The 1,200-bed prison is operated by Nashville-based Corrections Corporation of America, which declined to comment about the case because of medical privacy protections.
