Officer suspended for excessive force in trucker stop

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -- A Murfreesboro police officer will be temporarily suspended without pay for using excessive force when a truck driver failed to yield.

Officer Anthony Whitehead, an eight-year veteran of the department, was responding to an injury car accident on Feb. 29 when a tractor-trailer pulled out in front of him.

Whitehead pulled the trucker over and ordered him onto the ground and handcuffed him. Chief Glenn Chrisman said the officer also used obscenities and was unable to control his anger and frustration.

Whitehead will be suspended for 20 days and required to undergo anger and stress management.
