Reaction mixed to jury's recommended sentence in murder case

CLINTON, Ky. (AP) -- There is mixed reaction to a jury's recommended sentence of life without parole for a West Tennessee man convicted of killing a Kentucky teenager.

The jury in Clinton, Kentucky, made the recommendation Wednesday night after eight hours of deliberations. Prosecutors had asked for the death penalty for 31-year-old Quincy Omar Cross of Tiptonville.

The jury found Cross guilty on Tuesday of kidnapping, raping and murdering Jessica Currin. Her burned body was found in 2000.

Joe Currin, Jessica's father, says he is relieved that this part of his family's ordeal is over.

Defense attorneys say Cross is grappling with the recommended sentence.

Cross will be sentenced May 21 in Hickman Circuit Court.
