UT fans react after Lane Kiffin is fired from USC

KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT)-- He only held the title of "Head Coach" for a very short time but, the impression Lane Kiffin has left on University of Tennessee fans seems concrete.

Local 8 News was on campus Sunday talking with students and alumni about the news of Kiffin's firing from USC.

He left the Vols after just one season and broke the news during a press conference in January of 2010, "I really believe this is the only place that I would have left here to go-- was to go to Southern Cal," he said.

UT fans are still feeling the sting nearly four years later.

"I think what goes around comes around and I think that's hilarious," says UT Alumni, Nick Noble.

He only coached the Vols for one season but it's the broken promises, (like telling fans he was going to be here for a "long time") that's left a bad taste in a lot of fans mouths.

"We didn't like the way he left the university," says H.D. Wheeler, "we didn't like the way he trashed the players."

While these fans are sulking in satisfaction, some don't fault him for pursing his dream job.

"You couldn't blame the guy at first," says Noble.

But after NCAA violations under Kiffin's short lived tenure surfaced, it added fury to the fire.

"He doesn't take any responsibility for his actions," says Wheeler, "and that's why I think you see so many people glad and excited to see what happened to him."

Now Vol fans are looking forward to the future of the UT football program.

"Peyton Manning said Butch is a guy that's not going to leave a program like Tennessee and we're all buying into it," says UT student Lucas Wheeler.

And the name Kiffin will soon be a thing of the past.
