City of Knoxville agrees to pay man $200,000 for police beating

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A homeless man who was beaten by three Knoxville Police Officers will receive $200,000 in a settlement with the city.

Video captured three now former officers beating Michael Mallicoat in February 2013, kicking and slamming him against a police cruiser while he was handcuffed.

Neighbors say Mallicoat was yelling obscenities at people on Grainger Avenue.

Ty Compton, Jeremy Jinnett, and Chris Whitfield pleaded guilty in June to simple assault and felony official oppression. They are no longer allowed to work in law enforcement.
