Emi Sunshine gives preview of her show in Knoxville

By  |

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Emi Sunshine & the Rain are set to perform at The Square Room on Friday, September 5th, 2014. Sam Hatmaker, a 16-year-old Tennessee singer/songwriter whose unique, powerful voice and country/rock writing style have led to many performance credits including playing at Loretta Lynn's Ranch, will be opening the show.

Emi, a Madisonville native delights audiences with her powerful voice, charming stage presence, original songs, and one-of-a-kind sound, not to mention she is only ten years old. She yodels, belts, wails, sings, and harmonizes with her father, Randall, brother John, and Uncle Bobby who make up the band, the Rain. Their sound is a unique blend of Americana/Bluegrass/Gospel – otherwise known as Country Mountain Blues to many of her fans. Which she has quite a few of, over 150K at the moment and growing everyday! A youtube video of her busking at the Flea Market went viral and the nation is in love with sweet Emi Sunshine. She has already performed live on the TODAY show, The Grand Ole Opry, MerleFest, and Ryman. Whether she's doing a cover, one of her originals (she writes with her mother), or tugging your heartstrings with an old gospel hymn, EmiSunshine is sure to put on an unforgettable show.

With a family musical lineage that goes back three generations, it’s no surprise that EmiSunshine is a natural performer. Like her great-grandmother, Emi has the ability to turn on the country charm and entertain a crowd. Like her grandmother, Emi can sing gospel with the conviction of a soul who’s been on the earth years beyond her age. And like her father, Emi can cut loose and have fun with the crowd.

Emi draws inspiration from artists such as Buddy & Julie Miller, Dolly Parton and Sister Thorpe, as well as regional artists like Jeff Barba & Sarah Pirkle, Kata Hay, Matt Woods, and her distant cousin Kevin Abernathy.
