Events Planned to Honor 9-11 Victims

(WVLT) - There are several events planned across East Tennessee today to honor the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

The Tennessee Homeland Security Department, along with officials from Knox, Blount, Anderson, Cocke, Loudon, Jefferson, Union, Hamblen, Monroe, Roane, Grainger, Morgan, Claiborne, Campbell and Scott counties are holding a special ceremony to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11th, 2001. The ceremony begins at 8:46am with bell ringing at the time the first World Trade Tower was struck. There will also be a color guard, remarks from the Knox County and Knoxville mayors, and a wreath laying.

The 1st Presbyterian Church in Knoxville is holding a combined Christian and Jewish ceremony this morning. The church is located at 620 State Street. The ceremony begins at 8:30am.

U.T. Medical Center is holding a service to honor the 9/11 victims. It's at the Wood Auditorium and begins at 8:30am.
