West Knoxville Nightclub Gets More Time Defend Itself

By  |

Knoxville (WVLT) - The Knoxville Beer Board is giving a Bearden restaurant and nightclub more time to defend itself against charges of over-serving alcohol and serving to customers not old enough to drink it.

Volunteer TV's Gordon Boyd takes a look at what's won Michael's an extension at a hearing this morning.

The problem is, and has been, finding a competent lawyer able to take the case.

Michael's not only faces challenges to its beer and liquor licenses.

It also faces a wrongful death lawsuit from a woman who claims bartenders served her son, knowing he was underage and drunk.

Her son died in a car wreck several hours later.

That lawsuit has forced one of Michael's lawyers to pull out.

He once represented one of the witnesses whom the woman's lawyer plans to call in her lawsuit.

Therein lies the problem. East Tennessee's legal community is still small enough that most attorneys know one another.
