Baptist Hospital Scare

Baptist Hospital Downtown was on lockdown after police say a man ran through with a pellet gun, threatening to shoot people.

It happened Saturday night around 10:15.

KPD says 48 year old Tony Gentry threatened the hospital earlier in the day and then came to the hospital with what appeared to be a handgun.

Turns out it was a pellet gun.

Hospital officials say his mother was a patient at the hospital and he was mad he couldn't get information about her condition.

Gentry's being charged with two counts of aggravated assault and a firearms charge.

Police say he has no criminal history.

"I think it sends a message to all hospitals or any public institutions that its best to always be prepared and to be alert and i think they were," said Lt. Bob Woolridge at KPD.

Baptist hospital sent us this statement.

"We are fortunate to have a highly qualified and trained security force at Baptist Health System, which resulted in the quick apprehension of the suspect and no injuries to patients or employees.

They also say their security officers are licensed and bonded by the Knox County Sheriff's Department.
