CBS Nashville: Some State Lawmakers 'Double Dipping'

Nashville (AP) -- Some state lawmakers have been accused of "double-dipping," billing the state for expenses that are covered elsewhere.

WTVF TV in Nashville reports that State Rep Joe Towns of Memphis is the "King of the Double Dippers."

The station says Towns billed taxpayers to reimburse him more than $700 for a stay at a hotel in Philadelphia. But he also charged his campaign for the visit too, and claimed a daily expense allowance of $1,100 on top of that.

The station said he made similar charges for another hotel stay in Nashville.

Towns said he doesn't consider it "double dipping."

State Regulator Drew Rawlins says Towns has been warned before about such charges.
