Al-Maliki: Iraqi Forces Will Be Ready To Take Over By June 2007

Baghdad, Iraq (AP) -- Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki is voicing optimism that Iraqi forces will be ready to take full control of security in their country by next June.

Al-Maliki commented in Amman, where he met earlier today with president bush. He told ABC News that Iraqi forces would be, in his words, "fully ready to receive this command" by June of 2007.

During their meeting in the Jordanian capital, Bush and Al-Maliki agreed that the United States would speed efforts to turn security over the Iraqi forces. But they provided no specific timetable.

Al-Maliki also called on politicians and cabinet members loyal to anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr to end their boycott of the parliament and government. The Sadrists have been demanding a clearer deadline for Iraqi forces to take on more duties.
