Car Crashes Into Nashville Apartment, Explodes

Nashville (AP) -- A car crashed into an apartment building north of Nashville late this afternoon, setting off a fire that created a dramatic scene along Interstate 65.

Fire officials believe everyone was evacuated safely, though one firefighter suffered minor burns.

The Highland Ridge Apartment Complex was heavily damaged and possibly destroyed.

Winds gusting up to 35 miles-per-hour blew smoke onto the Interstate during the afternoon rush hour.

Several people got out of the building right after the 4 p.m. incident.

The driver of the car is believed to have fled.
