Tennessee Has Appropriations Tag Team in Washington

Chattanooga (AP) -- Tennessee has both a US Senator and a Congressman on committees that control federal spending.

Senator Lamar Alexander will join fellow Republican Congressman Zach Wamp as an appropriations tag team for the state in Washington.

Both lawmakers say they will work together to make sure Tennessee is not left behind on discretionary spending.

Alexander says that in this case, "one plus one equals more than two."

Wamp is a veteran member of the House Appropriations Committee.

He said the appropriations clout will soften the blow of losing Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist to retirement.

Alexander is the first Tennessee Republican to serve on Appropriations and the first from the state on the panel since Democratic US Senator Jim Sasser lost a re-election bid in 1994.
