Knoxville Police Arrest Suspected Car Thief

Knoxville (WVLT) – Knoxville Police have captured a man they say is responsible for a string of car thefts around the city.

Police arrested 31-year-old Nathan Shane Cox of Knoxville driving in a stolen 2007 Dodge Charger on Wednesday.

According to KPD, Cox is responsible for stealing six cars from area dealerships. Police say Cox would go to various dealerships and ask about buying a car, after a test drive, Cox allegedly would steal the car while the salesman was distracted.

Authorities estimate value of the stolen cars at over $158,000.

Officers say shortly after stealing the Charger, Cox stopped to get gas at the Pilot on Alcoa Highway and hit an employee as he tried to drive off without paying.

Cox is charged with six counts of Auto Theft and one count of Aggravated Assault, he also has outstanding warrants in Blount County for Contempt of Court.
